WEU Qualifiers Day 1: Entity Defeat Nigma, OG Crumble Against Secret

News
Published at: 2023-08-27 19:11:00

The most anticipated regional qualifier is finally here, as the Western Europe Qualifiers are underway. Four Upper Bracket matches were played today, and here’s a recap!

Quest Esports 2-0 KZ Team

The first match of the day wasn’t the most exciting one, as heavy favorites Quest Esports faced off against the KZ Team in the Upper Bracket.

Though the KZ Team put up a decent fight in both games' early to mid portions, Quest Esports showed their superiority and closed the series 2-0.

Quest Esports move on to the next round of the Upper Bracket while the KZ Team will play against Into The Breach in an elimination match.

Level Up 0-2 Luna Galaxy

Team Level Up is considered a notable competitor in the WEU Qualifiers, but they were surprised by Luna Galaxy today.

Luna Galaxy showed great teamwork and played exceptionally well in the series, showing they were the better team today. Level Up was defeated 0-2 and didn’t stand a chance against Luna Galaxy.

Fortunately for Level Up, they receive a BYE in the Lower Bracket, meaning they will skip a game and wait for the winner of KZ Team and Into The Breach.

Entity Gaming 2-1 Nigma Galaxy

Entity against Nigma was one of the two exciting series today, with Secret and OG on the course later.

Nigma Galaxy took the first game thanks to some great Black Holes from Mind_Control, creating space for Yuma’s Gyrocopter to have a completely free game.

Mikey went for a Mid Marci pick in the second game, which didn’t pay off well. Nigma couldn’t get the ball rolling and was cleaned up by Watson’s Templar Assassin, who finished the series 15/1/8, allowing Entity to tie the series.

The third game started off close, but Entity eventually took over after a fantastic showing from Gabbi’s Doom. A massive team fight broke out at 44 minutes, which ended with Entity team-wiping Nigma Galaxy to take complete control of the game. After 59 minutes, Nigma Galaxy was finally forced to tap out and concede the series.

Nigma Galaxy will play against Alliance in an elimination match tomorrow.

OG 0-2 Team Secret

OG and Team Secret became the day's main course, as these teams have a solid chance at qualifying for The International.

OG heavily dominated the first game. The boys in blue had a 30,000 net worth lead at 42 minutes, and the game seemed over for Team Secret. However, Crystallis purchased a Divine Rapier on his Phantom Assassin as a last gamble, which ended up paying off big time.

Crystallis displayed an incredible performance, putting his team on his back to complete an immaculate comeback. He ended the game with a KDA of 17/1/8. Who said he couldn’t carry?

In the second game, OG came out of the laning stage slightly ahead. However, the Team Secret heroes immediately punished an overextension from Yuragi’s Sven. Team Secret found their way back into the game to end the series 2-0.

Team Secret finds Entity as their next opponent, while OG has been sent down to the Lower Bracket to face Ancient Tribe.

Updated Bracket:

Here is how the bracket has been developed after day one:

Three matches will be played tomorrow, where three teams will have their TI runs ended early.
